About Arbitrum (ARB)
About Arbitrum
Arbitrum, built by Offchain Labs, is a Layer‑2 scaling solution for Ethereum that significantly increases transaction speed and reduces gas fees by using Optimistic Rollups. It inherits security directly from Ethereum and enables seamless EVM compatibility, allowing developers to deploy Solidity/Vyper dApps without modification.
What Makes Arbitrum Unique?
Arbitrum combines Ethereum-level security with dramatically improved scalability and cost efficiency. Its EVM bytecode compatibility and robust tooling make migration from Ethereum nearly frictionless. Security is maintained through a fraud-proof mechanism that challenges any incorrect block postings.
How It Works
Transactions are executed off-chain on Arbitrum and periodically committed to Ethereum mainnet. Validators can dispute fraudulent state updates in a challenge game, and honest actors are rewarded while misbehavior is penalized. Network upgrades like Nitro and innovations such as BoLD and Stylus further enhance throughput and usability.
What Is ARB Used For?
ARB is the native governance token for the Arbitrum DAO. It allows holders to vote on protocol changes, allocate treasury funds, and elect members of the Security Council governing network operation. ARB does not serve as gas—it’s used solely for governance, while ETH covers transaction fees.
Ecosystem & Adoption
Arbitrum hosts a thriving ecosystem including DeFi platforms like Uniswap, Aave, GMX, Radiant, and NFT/DApp experiences such as TreasureDAO. It supports both Arbitrum One (rollup optimized) and Arbitrum Nova (low-cost gaming/social optimized) chains. Operated by the Arbitrum DAO since March 2023, the protocol emphasizes decentralized decision-making and open participation.
